poetry assignment:
For this poetry assignment I had to select an image of a place that I had been to. this place must bring some sort of emotional attachment or sensation to me. This place or “space” should make me “feel” something (happy, sad, excited etc). Then I had to write a piece of poetry about it. I decided to choose a park back home because that was were I would spend all my summers with one of my best friends before he past away due to street violence. This "space" always brings back many memories and emotions, therefore I chose to dedicate this poem to him within this assignment.
my poem:
Overwhelmed
The sun that once shined on our faces while meditating on the crisp green grass,
the sun that once illuminated a friendship’s “missions” and laughter,
the bliss it once brought has now been replaced by melancholy.
Drowning in the thought of losing my “partner in crime”
while reminiscing about those good old summer days.
The gentle winds that once blew our souls away,
that brought the sense of freedom that electrified though out our bodies
is all now being dispersed throughout these trees.
All that remains is a soul that has lost its guide
trying to grasp on to the memories but the more I reach the more it’s beyond my reach.
Crippled by the thought that I could not hold back
and keep you by my side.

manifesto requirements:
This assignment requires that you be creative and step outside of your "English means written assignments" box.
There is a visual and written component to the assignment (both portions will need to be displayed on your website, and the
visual will be presented in class).
The Visual Component:
Create a manifesto that incorporates all that you have learned this semester. Think of themes, writing and rhetoric concepts, or values that you have gained. A manifesto can be anything - You can create a scrapbook page, paint something, sing a song, dance, read a poem, create your own story, etc. The bottom line is that this manifesto is a creative outlet for you, your partner, and/or group. It must be visual in some way - you will need copies if you have written something; and if you have created something else, that creation must be brought to class on the last day.
The Written Component:
In no more than three sentences, define/explain your manifesto. The reader/audience should get a feel for exactly what this manifesto is all about based on these lines.

My Manifesto EXPLANATION:
Without mistakes, knowledge is nearly impossible to attain. I chose an infinity sign because
it is never ending, just like growth in writing. I did not finish the last sentence of my manifesto (visual presentation) because
like my writing capability, it is endless and without limits!

My Manifesto - Rosie Lopez:
To mature we first must be immature
& to grow we must learn from the unknown.
Being mistaken, then corrected, expands our knowledge.
Without mistakes, one cannot grow in life.
There’s not only one way of expression; the options are infinite!
There’s infinite ways of describing a moment in time or imagination.
One grows day by day with the help of our own mistakes.
These mistakes can always be corrected
& rethinking an idea can broaden our knowledge
& not only have I growth as a writer, but I have grown as a person as well.
